Cursor Now Builds and Hosts Live Web Apps From a Single Prompt

Cursor just crossed the line from writing code to shipping products. The AI coding editor’s new Build Live Apps feature, announced on November 5, 2026, turns a plain-language request into a hosted web application — database, login, and hosting included — and hands you a shareable link.
If you’ve ever had an app stuck on localhost, this is the feature that gets it out into the world. Here’s how it works.
From Prompt to Live URL
The flow starts with a cloud agent — Cursor’s remote AI assistant that runs in the company’s infrastructure instead of on your machine. You tell it what you want to build, in normal words. Cursor’s own demo uses a simple example: “Build an internal app where my team can submit bug reports and track their status.”
From there, the agent handles the whole chain. It scaffolds the web app, spins up a Postgres database if the app needs one, sets up login through Cursor’s single sign-on system, provisions hosting, and runs security checks. When the checks pass, you choose to publish — and only then does the app go live, at a URL you can share. In the demo, a seat-map app for assigning office desks went live at its own address, with a working dashboard showing desks, assignments, and new hires.
What Gets Built for You
Three things that used to take separate tools now come as one package. The database is Postgres, provisioned automatically when the app needs to store data. Authentication runs through Cursor SSO, so private and team apps stay behind your team’s login. And hosting is managed end to end — Vercel said the hosting runs on its Vercel for Platforms infrastructure, and each team or individual gets an isolated hosting account.
Cursor also runs security checks before anything goes live, looking for common mistakes like secrets written into app files or exposed credentials. Nothing publishes until those checks pass and you explicitly hit publish. That’s a sensible guardrail, because an agent that can deploy also has the power to leak.
Who Can Actually Use It
There are real limits. Build Live Apps only works through Cursor’s cloud agents, so it needs a paid plan that includes them — it’s not on the Free or Plus plans. You also need the latest Cursor release. And your code has to live in a new repository on Cursor Origin, the company’s Git hosting platform, or in an existing GitHub repository. GitLab support is coming, but there’s no date for it yet.
That makes the feature a strong fit for internal tools — dashboards, bug trackers, admin panels — where your team already signs in with Cursor. For a public customer product that needs your own login system and your own infrastructure, it’s less of a fit. Cursor’s hosting is separate from its main services, and the model is built around its own sign-in.
Why This Matters
AI coding tools have spent two years getting better at writing code. The bottleneck moved: writing the app stopped being the hard part, and shipping it became the hard part. Cursor’s pitch is simple — agents made it easier to write code, but most apps never make it off localhost. Build Live Apps closes that gap, at least for the apps that fit its model.
It’s also a shot across the bow for tools like Lovable, Replit, and Vercel’s own v0, which already promise prompt-to-deployed-app flows. The difference is that Cursor starts from a full coding editor with your existing codebase, not from a blank prompt box. For developers already living in Cursor, that’s a real advantage.

The Bottom Line
Cursor’s Build Live Apps turns a text prompt into a hosted web app with a database, login, and a live URL — no separate deploy step. It’s limited to paid plans with cloud agents, and to Cursor Origin or GitHub repos, but for internal tools it’s the shortest path from idea to a link you can share. If you’ve got an app sitting on localhost, this is worth a try.
