Apple HomeView: Apple’s $299 Smart Home Hub Is Finally Here

Apple HomeView: Apple’s $299 Smart Home Hub Is Finally Here

Apple finally did the thing everyone expected years ago. At its “Welcome Home” event on October 13, 2026, the company unveiled Apple HomeView — a $299 smart-home hub built to be the command center for your entire house. After years of letting Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Nest own the living room, Apple is coming for it.

What the Apple HomeView Actually Is

The Apple HomeView is a 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen hub, powered by Apple’s A18 chip, with the new Siri AI at its core. Two versions: a tabletop model with a speaker base (in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space grey) and a wall-mountable version (silver and space grey). Both cost $299. Pre-orders are open now, with retail availability starting November 13.

It handles the expected smart-home duties — lights, thermostats, doorbells, cameras — and speaks the industry’s common languages: Matter and Thread, plus Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0. So it should play nice with gear you already own, not just Apple’s stuff. Full specs and launch details are covered well by TechRepublic’s breakdown.

The Headline Features

  • Siri AI in beta: conversational, aware of what’s on screen, and able to pull personal context from your iPhone — calendar, messages, reminders.
  • Facial recognition for up to six people: the hub identifies household members and shifts to their personal widgets, calendar, and messages. Apple says private stuff stays private, even on a shared screen.
  • FaceTime camera: a 12MP ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage, so video calls follow you around the kitchen.
  • Nine live camera feeds: the dashboard can stream up to nine security cameras at once.
  • Intercom mode: multiple Apple HomeView units around the house work like an intercom system.

The Fine Print (Read This Part)

Not everything is as simple as the keynote made it look. Wall mounts cost extra — $59 to $129 depending on the type. Some AI features have daily limits, with expanded access planned “for a future fee.” Replying to iMessages and emails only works for recognized users. And you’ll need a compatible iPhone or iPad for setup and multi-user support.

Two bigger caveats: it’s not launching in the EU due to regulatory requirements around Siri’s AI capabilities, and Siri AI itself is explicitly labeled beta. Apple’s asking early adopters to be patient while the assistant grows up. Given Siri’s track record, skepticism is healthy — as one analyst put it, “Siri remains the great unknown.”

Why the Apple HomeView Launch Matters

The smart home is the one corner of consumer tech Apple never conquered. Google and Amazon got there first and stayed. Apple HomeView is Apple’s most serious attempt to change that — and it’s not coming alone. Apple also showed a video doorbell, indoor/outdoor cameras, thermostats, and a smart deadbolt built with LG and Schneider Electric, arriving in December.

Will a $299 hub with a beta assistant steal the Echo crowd? That’s the $299 question. But Apple clearly believes the winning move isn’t a cheaper speaker — it’s the screen that knows who’s looking at it. Amazon and Google built their leads on low prices and early starts; Apple is betting that privacy-first personalization is the thing that finally makes people switch. It’s a very Apple bet: arrive late, charge more, and insist the experience justifies it.
